The Australian Government is inviting stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposed approach to assess and address carbon leakage risk.
Carbon leakage occurs when emissions-intensive activities are relocated to countries with less ambitious emissions reduction policies. This can undermine efforts to reduce global emissions.
This is the first of 2 consultations as part of the Carbon Leakage Review.
The review is looking at policy options to address carbon leakage and seeks input on:
- policy options to address carbon leakage risk
- how we are proposing to assess carbon leakage risk
- how we might characterise and measure potential impacts
- how it affects domestic economics, bilateral trade, and net global emissions.
Have your say by 12 December 2023.
