Funding launched for carbon capture, use and storage hubs and technologies

The Australian Government has launched a $250 million program to deploy carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) at scale.

The CCUS Hubs and Technologies program looks to boost Australia’s CCUS capabilities by:

encouraging domestic and international research collaborations
lowering the cost of technology adoption.

CCUS is key to reducing emissions from heavy industry and energy generation. The program will complement the Clean Hydrogen Industrial Hubs program with potential CO₂ storage sites in some priority hub locations.

The government’s Technology Investment Roadmap identified carbon capture and storage as a priority low emissions technology. The CCUS Hubs and Technologies program will support the roadmap's stretch goal of CO₂ compression, transport and storage under $20 per tonne.

The Technologies Stream will help fund the research, development and commercialisation of CCUS technologies and identification of viable CO₂ storage sites.
The Hubs Stream will help fund the design and construction of shared CCUS infrastructure between co-located CO₂ emitters.
