We are seeking your feedback on the possible effects of future offshore renewable energy projects in a proposed area of the Bass Strait. The proposed area is in Australian Commonwealth waters offshore of Gippsland, Victoria.
We regulate offshore renewable energy infrastructure in Commonwealth waters under the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act 2021. The Act outlines how and where infrastructure projects for renewable energy generation or transmission can operate. This includes offshore wind projects.
Enabling the offshore renewable energy industry supports the Australian Government’s aim to reduce emissions from the electricity sector, increase affordable electricity supply and create jobs.
Offshore renewable energy projects must share this proposed multi-use area with other users and interests.
Your feedback will help inform the Minister’s decision on whether the proposed area is suitable for offshore renewable energy.
Have your say on our Consultation hub.
Submissions close 7 October 2022.
