A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was recently agreed with the United States on the environment. It provides a new mechanism for the exchange of views on major environmental issues. This will ensure Australia’s new Environment Protection Agency is world class.
Making Australia’s nature positive reforms world leading
Australia will reap the benefits of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s 53 years of experience. This includes regulating national environment laws to evolve Environment Protection Australia.
The MOU also facilitates working with First Nations peoples. It recognises their significant knowledge of our environment. It also acknowledges First Nation’s contribution to successful environmental conservation policies and practices.
A strong relationship on environmental issues will also mean that both countries can learn from each other. This will help create stronger, more innovative evidence-based policy as we share data and information.
