We are consulting on an amendment to the Safeguard Mechanism Rule.
The Safeguard Mechanism legislates emissions limits for Australia’s largest emitters of carbon dioxide.
The Safeguard Rule was amended in March 2019 to allow businesses to use government-determined production variables and emissions intensity values to set their baselines. These variables and values are together called default values.
Most of the default values were included in the Rule in March 2020. We are consulting on an amendment that would:
- set the remaining default emissions intensity values
- make a minor change to the petroleum refining production variable.
Have your say on our Consultation Hub. Submissions are welcome until 3 August 2022.
