About the review
Our Secretary, David Fredericks, commissioned a review into workplace culture and change at the Australian Antarctic Division. Organisational culture consultant Leigh Russell commenced the review in October 2022.
The review provides:
- a comprehensive analysis of the division’s culture and progress towards cultural change
- recommendations to build a foundation for cultural change over the months and years ahead.
In making her findings, Ms Russell was able to draw on the experiences of a great number of contributors. More than 40% of the division’s staff contributed to the review through the survey, interviews or written submissions.
We received the review in March 2023.

The first recommendation was for the Secretary to provide a formal statement of acknowledgement. This statement acknowledges the practices, behaviours and processes that have contributed to workplace harm.
