This methodology determination (method) provides the rules for crediting emission reductions achieved by feeding dairy cows defined dietary supplements as part of the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme.
This method was part of the Carbon Farming Initiative, which ran from September 2011 until December 2014 when it was integrated with the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). The ERF was replaced by Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme in 2022.
Using the method
To use this method and participate in the ACCU Scheme, you need to apply to the Clean Energy Regulator. The Regulator manages project registration, compliance and crediting of emissions reductions for projects under the ACCU Scheme.
Visit the Regulator’s website for:
- information on the method and how to use it
- project planning guidance, including eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Estimating the abatement
All projects registered under this method must use the Dietary Fats Calculator to estimate emission reductions.
View the Dietary Fats Calculator (XLSX 2.5 MB).
Consultation on the method
The original method was endorsed by the Domestic Offsets Integrity Committee (DOIC). The DOIC operated from 2010 until 2014 when it was replaced by the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee.
