The report estimates the emissions reduction effort required to meet Australia's emissions reduction targets. The projections include sensitivity analyses to illustrate how different economic and technology assumptions impact emissions.

The Methodology for the 2018 Projections document provides information on how the department estimated the 2018 projections of greenhouse gas emissions. This methodology provides key data inputs, assumptions, formulas and methods.
Australia's emissions projections - chart data was updated on 4 June 2019 for technical correction of figure 7.
The fact sheet was updated on 22 January 2019 to note Australia's projected emissions in 2030 were revised down by 8 Mt CO2-e since the 2017 projections.’
