Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for Buildings

Publication Date:
November 2019

Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for Buildings [1.45MB PDF] [926KB DOCX]

The Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for Buildings (Building Standard) is a voluntary standard to manage greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. The Building Standard can be used to better understand and manage carbon emissions, to credibly claim carbon neutrality and to seek carbon neutral certification.

It provides best-practice guidance on how to measure, reduce and report emissions data for buildings.

Certification for buildings is available through the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) or the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)

Verification framework

To provide additional certainty of the integrity of Climate Active carbon neutral certifications, the Climate Active Building Standard requires verifications are conducted for a minimum of five per cent of all applications for carbon neutral certification for buildings. This is required for both the NABERS and GBCA certification pathways.
