The National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA) Factors provides emission factors and methods that help companies and individuals estimate greenhouse gas emissions. Our department publishes revised factors every year.
About the NGA Factors
The NGA Factors should not be used to meet reporting requirements under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Act 2007. While the methods draw on the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Measurement) Determination 2008, companies can apply them to a broader range of emissions estimates.
We estimate default emissions factors:
- using data available on Australia's National Greenhouse Accounts (ANGA)
- alongside Australia’s National Inventory Report.
This ensures consistency between inventories at the company or facility level, and the national level.
The methods we use at the national level, reflected in the factors, are consistent with international guidelines. They are subject to international expert review each year.
This issue supersedes previous issues.
Please note this issue published in February 2023 includes an additional table of Emissions factors for the purposes of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 (table 2 page 9). This document supersedes the document published in November 2022.
