About these documents
In 2015, the Australian Government set a National Energy Productivity Target to improve Australia’s energy productivity by 40% between 2015 and 2030. To achieve this target, the then Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council developed the National Energy Productivity Plan (NEPP), which brought a wide range of opportunities into a coordinated strategy.
On 6 October 2022, the Australian Government announced that it will develop a National Energy Performance Strategy (NEPS) to create a high energy performance economy and deliver the energy efficiency savings required to meet the government’s 2030 and 2050 emission reduction targets.
Ongoing NEPP activities and processes will continue as a workstream under the Energy Efficiency Working Group. Further consideration will be given to the interaction between the NEPP and NEPS during NEPS development.
