Comment on Listing Assessment
Invitation to comment
The Endangered Tympanocryptis pinguicolla (grassland earless dragon) was recently split into four discrete species. Each of the four species has been separately assessed by the Commonwealth, New South Wales and/or Australian Capital Territory governments using the Common Assessment Method.
You are invited to provide your views about:
- The eligibility of each of the four grassland earless dragon species for inclusion on the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) list of threatened species:
- Tympanocryptis pinguicolla (Victorian grassland earless dragon)
- Tympanocryptis mccartneyi (Bathurst grassland earless dragon)
- Tympanocryptis lineata (Canberra grassland earless dragon)
- Tympanocryptis osbornei (Monaro grassland earless dragon)
- The necessary conservation actions for the above species.
Evidence provided by experts, stakeholders and the general public is welcome. Responses can be provided by any interested person.
Anyone may nominate a native species, ecological community or key threatening process for listing, transfer to a new category, or deletion from the threatened species list under the EPBC Act. The Threatened Species Scientific Committee (the Committee) undertakes the assessment of species to determine eligibility for inclusion on the list of threatened species and provides its recommendation to the Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Water.

Personal information that you provide will only be used for these purposes. Personal information may be disclosed to employees of Australian Government agencies assisting the Committee for the purposes outlined above. The Department will deal with personal information contained in, or provided in relation to, responses in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
Further, the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments have agreed to share threatened species assessment documentation (including comments) to ensure that all States and Territories have access to the same documentation when making a decision on the status of a potentially threatened species. This is also known as the ‘common assessment method’. As a result, any personal information that you have provided in connection with your comments may be shared between Commonwealth, State or Territory government entities to assist with their assessment processes.
