About the nomination and assessment
The ‘Illawarra and south coast lowland grassy woodland’ ecological community was placed on the 2014 Finalised Priority Assessment List (FPAL) by the Commonwealth Environment Minister. This FPAL item is currently being assessed by the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (the Committee) as a potentially threatened ecological community under Australia's national environmental law, the EPBC Act.
During the assessment, technical advice has been reviewed on the location of the ecological community. Because of this advice the Committee proposes renaming the ‘ecological community as the Illawarra and south coast lowland grassy woodland’. A draft Conservation Advice and distribution map have been produced for the ecological community. The assessment is due for completion by 31 July 2016.
The Committee sought the views of experts, stakeholders and the general public on the draft Conservation Advice for the ecological community, as provided, and the proposal to list it as ‘Critically Endangered' under the EPBC Act.
