Invitation to comment
You are invited to provide your views about:
- the eligibility of Philotheca sporadica (Kogan waxflower) for listing as Endangered on the EPBC Act threatened species list; or
- the necessary conservation actions for the species.
Philotheca sporadica (Kogan waxflower) is currently listed as Vulnerable and was being considered by the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (the Committee) for delisting, following a public nomination received in 2015. A draft assessment was undertaken in 2017, including a public consultation period between 29 November 2017 and 24 January 2018. The Committee considered the information in that assessment, including a recommendation that the Kogan waxflower is eligible for listing as Endangered. The Committee has subsequently recommended a further consultation period, to ensure all interested parties are able to provide comment on the proposed uplisting.
Anyone may nominate a native species, ecological community or threatening process for listing or delisting under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) or for a transfer of an item already on the list to a new listing category. The Committee undertakes the assessment of species to determine eligibility for inclusion in the list of threatened species and provides its recommendation to the Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Energy.
