The Draft National Recovery Plan for the Australian Fairy Tern (Sternula nereis nereis) was prepared by the Australian Government Department of the Environment and Energy and is proposed to be made as the national recovery plan for this species under the EPBC Act.
The Australian Fairy Tern occurs in Western Australia and south-eastern Australia, including Tasmania. The species is listed in the Vulnerable category under the EPBC Act. Ongoing habitat loss, changed water regimes and human disturbance are the primary threats to the species. Other threats include predation, invasive herbivores and habitat changes due to climate change.
The draft national recovery plan provides information on distribution, habitat, threatening processes, and presents the actions considered necessary to recover this species.
