National Koala Recovery Team

A national koala recovery team has been established to assist in the coordination and implementation of the National Recovery Plan for the Koala.

The recovery team structure is based on a program delivery model and recovery team best practice guidelines. It includes:

  • the board
  • strategy and coordination group
  • community advisory committee
  • First Nations Reference Group.

Technical groups can also be established as required to help answer specific questions.

The recovery team will support the delivery of the actions in the recovery plan and ensure conservation effort, policy settings, regulatory frameworks and investments by all levels of government, universities, non-government organisations, zoos and the community are having the maximum benefit and helping to recover the koala.

Recovery team board

The recovery team board was established in October 2022 and is the primary governing body within the recovery team. It handles high-level strategic review and coordination of recovery efforts. Members of board are representatives from key organisations involved in delivering koala conservation. The koala recovery team board meets twice a year or as required.

The board delegates tasks to other subgroups of the recovery team, which also meet as required. The Board is governed by the Koala Recovery Team Board Terms of Reference.
