2014 National Landcare Program Review

In 2014, we sought feedback from people about the National Landcare Program. We wanted to know what you thought about:

  • emerging natural resource management (NRM) issues for industry
  • how to develop better government-industry-partnerships
  • how to deliver outcomes relating to innovation, best practice and climate adaption.

How you had your say

We did this is 2 ways:

  • community information sessions across the country
  • online consultation survey.

Who engaged?

Community information sessions

Over 600 people met with us to give feedback. We held 19 sessions across Australia, including capital cities and regional centres.

Some of the sessions were with people from sectors including:

  • horticulture
  • dairy
  • livestock
  • cotton
  • fishing
  • forestry
  • cropping.

The sessions were designed to:

  • introduce the community to the National Landcare Program
  • inform input to the online consultation survey.

Online survey

333 people responded to the online survey. The survey focused on the regional aspects of the program.

We also released a consultation paper to help guide responses to specific questions in the online survey.

The following topics were part of the survey:

  • partnering with the NRM community, including landcare
  • facilitating landcare
  • community engagement in regional NRM planning and project delivery
  • organisational performance expectations
  • simplified administrative processes
  • simplified reporting.

What you said

Feedback from the community information sessions and survey highlighted key themes, including the importance of:

  • incorporating local priorities into regional NRM planning and delivery
  • capturing NRM outcomes and effectively telling the local and regional story of NRM achievements
  • involving the community in identifying and setting local priorities for NRM investment.
  • involving farmers, Regional Landcare Facilitators and Sustainable Agriculture Facilitators in planning and delivery.

Read a summary of the feedback in the download section.

What happened next

We used this feedback to influence the design of the regional stream of the National Landcare Program.
