About the framework
We are committed to demonstrating outcomes from our natural resource management (NRM) investments. Effective program management includes regular reporting on improvements. We use the monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement (MERI) framework to do this.
Our MERI Framework outlines the MERI approach for the current phase of the Natural Heritage Trust. This framework is based on the Australian Government’s Natural Resource Management Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Improvement Framework.
Ecological Monitoring System Australia protocols
An important element of the MERI Framework is monitoring the intervention impacts over the life of a project. We have been working with the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN). Our partnership has developed a suite of ecological monitoring protocols. These protocols are called the Ecological Monitoring System Australia (EMSA).
NRM Regional Delivery Partners will be required to use a subset of the 24 modules and the Monitor app when monitoring projects. The modules provide users with protocols to monitor most Australian terrestrial ecosystems. This enables the reliable measurement of environmental change. The modules are published on the TERN website.
