If you import, export or manufacture methyl bromide in Australia, you must:
- hold a licence from us
- meet certain reporting and record keeping requirements.
If you do not meet these requirements, you may face civil or criminal penalties.

Apply for a licence
To import, export or manufacture methyl bromide, you must hold a controlled substance licence.
You must pay a non-refundable application fee when you apply. A licence is valid for 2 calendar years.

Reporting requirements
If you import or export methyl bromide, you must lodge reports every six months through our Ozone Licensing and Reporting System (OLARS).
The report will include details of your imports, exports and production. This includes the country you were importing from or exporting to.
Import levy
If you import methyl bromide, you must also pay an import levy at the end of each reporting period. This levy is payable on each metric tonne of methyl bromide imported.
For suppliers
Reporting requirements
If you supply methyl bromide for any use, except QPS use, you must report to us every 6 months. This is for supply of methyl bromide for non-QPS fumigations, feedstock or laboratory and analytical purposes.
You must report on how the methyl bromide you sold is being used.
Email your reports to ozonereporting@dcceew.gov.au.
Record keeping
If you supply methyl bromide for any use, you must:
- record each sale in an approved template
- keep this record for 5 years from the date of sale.
We may request a copy of these records.
