Protecting the environment by reducing the emissions of ozone depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases.
The Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas (OPSGG) Program has several components:
- administering the legislation, including licensing schemes and compliance activities
- developing policy and guidelines to assist stakeholders (including internal stakeholders) to understand and effectively operate under the legislation
- developing strategies to phase out ozone depleting substances and to reduce emissions of ozone depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases
- operation of the National Halon Bank
- contribute to international ozone protection and climate policy
- encourage and promote ozone and climate science and research

2014–2016 OPSGG Program review
On 5 May 2016, the Australian Government decided on a range of measures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the OPSGG Program. The measures will further reduce emissions of ozone depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases and reduce business costs.
