Recycling Modernisation Fund data viewer

Welcome to the Recycling Modernisation Fund Data Viewer.

This instructional video will show you how to navigate the Viewer and interact with charts and data.

Let’s get started.

The Overview page provides a dashboard view of headline figures for projects funded by the Recycling Modernisation Fund and visuals to help navigate the data more easily.

Across the ribbon at the top, you’ll find choices to filter the visuals on the page by:

• jurisdiction,
• region – identifying if the project is in urban or regional/remote area,
• project status – highlighting projects that are already online/completed.
• Facility type which allows targeting specific materials –or projects that cover multiple materials, such as Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs),
• recycling type,
• and expected financial year of commissioning

These filters adjust the figures in the cards as well as the Sankey diagram and projects displayed on the map.

The top headline figures shown in the cards cover:

• the number of projects,
• the expected capacity the projects will be improving, expanding or creating,
• the joint governments funding,
• total project cost,
• and the ongoing construction jobs expected to be created by the projects.

The Sankey diagram shows the urban and regional distribution of facilities, and provides figures on the facility type and funded capacity.

You can also change the view to a table by clicking on the tab in the top right corner of the visual.

Clicking on a blank area of the Sankey diagram will turn off any selections made on the diagram but will still show selections made from the global filters across the top of the page.

On the map on the right-hand side of the screen, you will see information displayed about the location of projects.

Hovering over dots on the map will give you detailed information about the project.

Clicking on the dot will interact with all figures in the Sankey diagram and the cards above.

Scrolling to the bottom there are three navigational buttons, which you can use to select the page you want to look at:

• Overview
• Material Type
• About the data

The Material Type page shows a more detailed analysis of the Recycling Modernisation Fund projects.

You’ll find the same filter options in the ribbon at the top of the page, and an additional option ‘material type’ that lets you filter by each of the funded material types: waste glass, plastics, tyres, paper and cardboard.

The filters adjust the figures on the graphs, as well as the displayed projects on the map.

The graphs on the right-hand side show the Funded capacity coming online, the funded capacity by material type and the funded capacity by plastic polymer. 

The bar graphs have been designed to interact with one another and the adjacent map. Click on specific bars in each chart to see how it interacts with the other charts and the projects map.

The funded capacity by polymer can be toggled between a table or graph view by clicking on the buttons in the top right corner.

On the map on the left-hand side of the page you can hover over the dots for specific projects to provide specific information about the projects.

To clear filter selections that are affecting the charts, hover over your mouse over a filter option until the eraser icon appears to the top right. Click on the eraser to reset that particular filter option from applying to the page.

The About the data page includes more information about the data being displayed in the viewer, including key descriptions and caveats to the data.

The RMF Viewer was built using data supplied by state and territory governments and originally collected from project proponents during the application process. The data is subject to changes as projects progress in their development and additional information becomes available.
