The Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities commissioned Sinclair Knight Merz to analyse the Republic of Ireland's national waste reporting system, which underpins the Republic of Ireland's annual National Waste Report. The Sinclair Knight Merz report is one of several commissioned by the Australian Government to inform the Australian, state and territory governments' deliberations on the development of options for an Australian national waste and resource recovery data system.
The Analysis of the Republic of Ireland's Survey System for National Waste Reporting identifies, documents and assesses the design features of the Republic of Ireland's national waste data reporting system. The report includes analysis of data capture methodologies, datasets, data uses, system design, operational features, roles and responsibilities, costs and benefits. The report notes the Republic of Ireland's intention to replace the existing manual survey-, questionnaire- and report-based data collection system with an online reporting system at some time in the future.
The Analysis of the Republic of Ireland's Survey System for National Waste Reporting supports work under the National Waste Policy: Less Waste, More Resources, specifically Strategy 16 which requires the development of a system that provides online access to integrated national core data on waste and resource recovery.
