About this report
The Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities commissioned Randall Environmental Consulting to compile an inventory of the over-arching objectives and guiding principles used by Australian jurisdictions to promote beneficial reuse and resource recovery of waste.
The report identifies the objectives and principles that are directly related to beneficial reuse and resource recovery. To provide a more complete inventory some objectives and principles that are indirectly related to beneficial reuse and resource recovery have also been included.
This report will help guide the development of an agreed set of principles which can be used to determine when a waste product can cease being deemed a waste and be termed a resource. It supports work under the National Waste Policy: Less waste, More Resources including Strategy 4 (introducing a national definition and classification system for wastes) and Strategy 5 (develop a suite of national principles, specifications, best practice guidelines etc).
