About this document
The Department engaged KPMG to undertake a materials flow analysis of domestic RAC equipment at end-of-life in Australia. The report End-of-Life Domestic Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Equipment in Australia is the first step in working with affected industries to better understand domestic RAC equipment as a waste.
The report is an analysis of what happens to the approximately 775 000 unwanted domestic refrigerators and 550 000 air conditioners that are disposed of by households each year in Australia. The report considers the role of different participants along the supply chain. In particular, it focuses on groups who have an influence over the waste and recycling outcomes, such as retailers, local governments, technicians and metal recyclers.
