The Australian Government is supporting the Vinyl Council of Australia to design a national product stewardship scheme for polyvinyl chloride coated polyester textiles (PVC-PES textiles).
The problem
Presently, PVC-PES textile products are not able to be recycled in Australia despite its inherent value as a resource stream. It is estimated that around 73,000 tonnes of these products reach end-of-life every year which are commonly disposed to landfill.
The solution
This project is providing end-of-life solutions for PVC-PES textile products. This grant will fund Vinyl Council of Australia to research and design a sustainable national product stewardship scheme for these materials.
The Specialised Textiles Association, Australian Resilient Floorcovering Association and PanelPod Pty Ltd are partners in this project. The Australian Government is providing a grant of $349,850 for the project through the National Product Stewardship Investment Fund.
When
This product stewardship project commenced in March 2021.
