About this report
The department engaged Net Balance Management to review and document key features of three Australian Government data systems that address aspects of waste and recycling data. The systems examined were the Australian Bureau of Statistics' arrangements of collecting and reporting waste data, the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme and the National Pollution Inventory.
These three reports were intended to capture learnings from the development and management of these systems to inform the scoping and development of a future national waste data system. A fourth report on the potential integration of these waste-related data systems was also produced.
These reports support work towards Strategy 16 of the National Waste Policy: Less waste, more resources, which contains commitments to identify improvements to Australian waste data reporting, and to scope and develop options for future approaches to national waste data.
