About the report
This report has been prepared by Net Balance Management to inform the design of data and reporting requirements for the product stewardship legislation and associated regulations.
Net Balance Management investigated a sample of 15 past, existing and emerging product stewardship schemes and single and multi company schemes covering a range of products and materials.
The investigation confirmed the feasibility of having a common data requirement as a condition of scheme accreditation or approval under the product stewardship legislation.
To deal with the diversity of product stewardship scheme types and circumstances, Net Balance Management conclude that it is appropriate to have a common data requirement that has core and additional elements, where the core elements may be mandatory and the additional elements optional, or considered best practice.
Net Balance also concludes that it is feasible to align the common data requirement with the indicators and reporting principles of the Global Reporting Initiative.
The report forms part of a suite of research reports used to inform the National Waste Policy - Less waste, more resources.
