The Australian Government is supporting Edge Environment to minimise commercial furniture ending up in landfill and assist in the recycling process.
The problem
Commercial furniture is consistently identified as a problem waste stream. Efforts to address this waste stream to date have been ad hoc, and generally led by single producers or small groups.
The solution
This project enables further research into waste and resource streams in the commercial furniture sector and engagement with a broader group of stakeholders to identify barriers and opportunities.
The project will support office furniture such as chairs, desks, storage units and workstations be diverted from landfill.
The Australian Government is providing a grant of $372,890 for the project through the National Product Stewardship Investment Fund.
When
The development of the commercial furniture product stewardship scheme will commence in June 2021.
