About these reports
The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment commissioned a consultancy to review current standards, regulations, guidelines and specifications within Australia relevant to the recovery and reuse of organic residues.
Through desktop research and stakeholder interviews the report assessed the viability of current policy settings and industry practices to facilitate end-product confidence, market development and the ability to successfully increase the diversion of organic waste from landfill to application as soil conditioners on Australia’s agricultural soils.
The report gave particular attention to factors affecting organics processing capacity as well as those that could positively influence future market development and consumer confidence, and provided recommendations on the development of a sustainable organics recycling industry in Australia
