About the report
The Sustainable Procurement in the Australian Government Report 2013 describes the Australian Government's overarching procurement framework and the role of sustainability within procurement, including key environmental and social policies. The report collates examples of sustainable procurement sourced from Australian Government entities' annual reports (for 2010-11 and 2011-12) and shows a diverse range of procurement practices covering all aspects of agency operation from stationery and paper procurement to the choice of vehicles and major refurbishment projects.
This report contributes to Strategy 2 of the National Waste Policy: Less waste, more resources which states that all governments will embody and promote sustainable procurement in their own operations.
