About the report
Voluntary commitment programs bring together organisations from across the food supply chain to reduce their food waste. This includes farmers and growers, food manufacturers and food service companies, wholesalers, retailers and consumers, to work on common problems and find and test real solutions.
Used by a number of countries around the world, they can avoid the need for legislation or regulation while supporting the delivery of existing or planned policy or programs.
A voluntary commitment program in Australia will play a key role in delivering the national target to halve food waste by 2030.
The Voluntary Commitment Program Policy Document makes recommendations on how a voluntary commitment program would operate in the Australian context. As agreed in the National Waste Policy Action Plan, the Australian Government intends to implement a voluntary commitment program to deliver on its national target to halve food waste by 2030.
