About the application
The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has received an application and draft assessment report under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) include domesticated Ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) on Part 2 of the Live Import List for research purposes only.
The report has been prepared against the standard terms of reference and assesses the suitability of this species for importation into Australia.

Comments are invited on the draft report. It is available for public comment for 20 business days, closing on Thursday 16 April 2020.

Finalised risk assessment reports will be published on the Department’s website. Comments received during this consultation process may be used and referenced in the final report. On 1 February 2020 the environment functions of the former Department of Environment and Energy amalgamated with the former Department of Agriculture and Department of Water Resources to establish the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. The draft assessment report references the former departments and regulatory functions under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 or the Biosecurity Act 2015. These functions are now managed by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.
