Targeted consultation with industry and governments on proposed obligations to inform a cost benefit analysis.

Environment Ministers’ Meeting

All Environment Ministers agree that the new national packaging regulation will be implemented under Federal legislation.

Mid 2024
Public consultation

Public consultation on the proposed mandatory obligations will be undertaken to inform the new packaging scheme and support a Policy Impact Analysis (PIA).

Late 2024 to 2025
Legislative processes

The Commonwealth and state and territory governments to undertake any necessary legislative processes to establish the new regulatory scheme.

End 2025
New regulatory scheme established

The new regulatory scheme for packaging is in place.
