We are making significant investments and taking action to protect the Reef now and in the future. To date, together with our delivery partners, our efforts have delivered tangible results. This is reducing pressures on the Reef but we must continue to work together.
Together with the Queensland government, our investment in the Reef is more than $4.4 billion from 2014 to 2030. Of this, more than $3.2 billion is from the Australian Government.
This has helped to improve water quality and control coral-eating crown-of-thorns starfish. Investments also address plastic pollution and rehabilitate island, coastal and reef habitats.
We are investing $1.2 billion over 9 years to 2030. This will accelerate actions to support the Reef’s long-term resilience and protect its future.
Our investments will help us meet our actions and objectives under the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan (Reef 2050 Plan).
The investments focus on priority areas.
Delivery through the Reef Trust
The Reef trust is the Australia Government’s investment program to support delivery of the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan. The Reef Trust is designed to direct funding in a targeted and strategic way.
Investments will be delivered through a range of funding mechanisms. This supports collaboration, innovation and cost-effective delivery of environmental outcomes. We will continue to work with our partners and strengthen our partnerships for the future.
