About this report
This report has been developed as a partnership between the Great Barrier Reef Taskforce (Commonwealth Department of the Environment) and AIMS. The purpose of the report is to demonstrate use of integrated monitoring principles and how different operational elements of monitoring, modelling and adaptive management are linked. This report focuses on a subsection of the GBRWHA - the Mackay/Whitsunday Region - to illustrate key elements of integrated monitoring. This region encompasses issues encountered more broadly throughout the GBR, including exposure to risks posed by agriculture and ports and shipping, as well as social tension between those that seek a stronger and more diversified economic base for the region and those looking to protect conservation and lifestyle values, and tourism.
