About this document
The fifth phase of the Reef Trust builds on previous phases of investment with a strong focus on partnerships and co-investment with the community and private sector to maximise benefits to the Great Barrier Reef.
Through this phase, the Reef Trust will provide $5 million to Greening Australia to restore priority wetlands along coastal areas of the Great Barrier Reef. Greening Australia will match this dollar-for-dollar with funds raised from private contributions to Greening Australia’s Reef Aid campaign.
Phase five will also provide $4.5 million to support an estimated $12.8 million investment by the sugar-cane industry to improve on-farm nutrient management and improve the quality of water entering the Reef. The project will be led by sugar milling company, MSF Sugar, and assist 36 farming groups to transition to more efficient farming systems, including controlled traffic, minimum tillage, trash blanketing and legume rotation crops.
The Reef Trust is continuing to work with partners in government, industry and the community on projects which help protect and conserve the Great Barrier Reef.
