Reef Trust branding
All projects funded in full or part by the Reef Trust, must acknowledge the Reef Trust’s investment in all promotional activities.
Information on how and when to acknowledge Reef Trust funding for a project is available in the Reef Trust Branding Guidelines. The guidelines apply to all material produced for projects funded and delivered through, and in partnership with, the Reef Trust. They are to be used in conjunction with the Australian Government Branding Guidelines.
The Gully and Stream Bank Toolbox
Developed under the Reef Trust’s Phase IV Gully and Stream Bank Erosion Control Program, the Gully and Stream Bank Toolbox (the Toolbox) is a technical guide to selecting, designing and implementing gully and stream bank erosion control activities in the Great Barrier Reef catchments. It is intended to guide the implementation of gully and stream bank remediation programs to improve water quality and riparian vegetation.
The Toolbox identifies key opportunities for gully and stream bank remediation, provides guidelines for the development of site plans, and identifies site-reporting processes and key management actions.
Published in March 2022, the third edition of the Toolbox builds on 7 years of implementing gully and stream bank erosion control activities in Great Barrier Reef catchments and incorporates new research outcomes since the publication of the previous toolbox
A video introducing and explaining the Gully and Streambank Toolbox is also available.

Reef Trust Offsets Plan and Calculator
A Reef Trust Offsets Plan and Calculator has been developed to provide a scientifically and economically robust approach to calculating the financial value of Great Barrier Reef offsets relating to water quality and some marine habitats. The calculator is specific to the Great Barrier Reef and therefore not transferrable to other marine environments, including other World and National Heritage-listed marine environments.
The Reef Trust Offsets Plan and Calculator has been designed to be used by Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) proponents and referral assessment officers during the assessment and approval phase of an EPBC Act referral.
The calculator only applies to the biodiversity values of the Reef. It uses a range of surrogates for key values and environmental processes. Surrogates are tiered to prevent double counting of offset impacts. Currently the calculator can be used for water quality (fine sediment and dissolved inorganic nitrogen); and mangroves, seagrass, saltmarsh and shallow reef habitats.
The calculator requires specific inputs from the assessment process and can therefore only be applied to projects that have been aware of, and prepared for, this requirement. Some proponents whose projects are at the final stages of EPBC Act assessment may not be able to use the calculator, should marine offsets be required.
