Background
Dr Tom Mooney is a Research Scientist in the Water and Sediment Quality Team, specialising in aquatic ecology and ecotoxicology. His focus is the research, development and management of the biological monitoring program at SSB. A key component of his work includes the assessment of mining related contaminants on biological communities and using their response to derive candidate guideline values.
Tom’s previous experience involved assessing the effects of diesel contaminated soils on invertebrate communities in the subantarctic.
Areas of expertise and research interests
Aquatic ecology and ecotoxicology; biological monitoring; terrestrial ecotoxicology and environmental statistics.
