Internationally important wetlands
Australia currently has 67* Ramsar wetlands that cover more than 8.3 million hectares. Ramsar wetlands are those that are representative, rare or unique wetlands, or are important for conserving biological diversity. These are included on the List of Wetlands of International Importance developed under the Ramsar convention.

Alphabetical listing of Australian Ramsar sites
* In May 2010, two separate Ramsar sites in Kakadu National Park were expanded and merged to form the Kakadu National Park Ramsar site (Number 2). As a result there is no Site Number 30.
