Introduction
We celebrate the United Nations’ World Water Day on 22 March.
This year’s theme is “Clean Water and Sanitation”.
Our latest edition of Wetlands Australia highlights how wetlands help to keep water clean in Australia.
As changes to Australia’s climate affects rainfall and demand for water, Australia needs to responsibly manage our water resources and wetlands. This will help to meet society’s water needs and protect the environment for future generations.
World Water Day highlights how wetland ecosystems:
- absorb water pollutants and improve water quality
- provide aquatic refuge and habitat for plant and animal species.
Together with state and territory governments, First Nations communities, community care groups, and our international partners, we can care for Australia’s wetlands.
In this edition of Wetlands Australia, we share wetland stories from across Australia. Be inspired by the latest conservation efforts, and learn how you can explore your local wetlands.
