About the application
The current export approval for the South Australian Lakes and Coorong Fishery expires on 25 August 2022. In March 2022, the Department of Agriculture, Water, and the Environment received a revised application from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions, South Australia, following the implementation of the new fishery management plan.
The application has been prepared to address the Australian Government Guidelines for the ecologically sustainable management of fisheries – 2nd edition. The application will be used to assess the operation of the fishery for the purposes of Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Consideration will be given to:
- declaring the South Australian Lakes and Coorong Fishery, as managed consistent with the Fisheries Management Act 2007 and the Fisheries Management (Lakes and Coorong Fishery) Regulations 2009 and the Fisheries Management (General) Regulations 2017, as an approved wildlife trade operation, under section 303FN of the EPBC Act
- including in the list of exempt native specimens, specimens harvested in the South Australian Lakes and Coorong Fishery, as managed consistent with Fisheries Management Act 2007 and the Fisheries Management (Lakes and Coorong Fishery) Regulations 2009 and the Fisheries Management (General) Regulations 2017.
