On behalf of the Australian Government, the department promotes and supports the reliable, sustainable and secure operations of energy markets and global energy security through:
- international exchange on policy experience
- innovative technological or financial solutions
- establishing research and business collaboration opportunities
- promoting Australia’s position in international negotiations.
The department also leads regular bilateral and multilateral energy consultations with Australia's major energy trading partners and other stakeholders.
The energy-focused international engagement activities of the department form a vital part of a broader Australian Government agenda to improve the productivity, competitiveness, security and sustainability of the Australian economy.
Australia's participation in key international forums plays an important role in supporting Australia's economic prosperity and enhancing energy security objectives. Australia's energy policy priorities are also advanced through engagement in multilateral forums including the G20, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), East Asia Summit, International Energy Agency (IEA) & International Solar Alliance (ISA).
