Darwin Statement - Heritage Chairs and Officials of Australia and New Zealand

The Australian Heritage Council welcomes the release of the ‘Darwin Statement’ by the Heritage Chairs and Officials of Australia and New Zealand.

In May 2018, representatives from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage organisations joined the annual meeting of the Heritage Chairs and Officials of Australia and New Zealand for the first time and were invited to become permanent members of the forum. The forum, which includes the Chair of the Australian Heritage Council, issued the Darwin Statement. The statement affirms the need to include, engage and collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and share their cultural heritage stories.
