This report is one in a series of technical reports that make up the National Assessment of Chemicals Associated with Coal Seam Gas Extraction in Australia (the Assessment). This report reviews the literature about the environment and gas extraction available up until 2013.

This report collated and considered information from published and unpublished national and international sources to inform the environmental components of the subsequent stages of the Assessment; in particular, to:

  • characterise the receiving environment
  • investigate the approaches and limitations of possible environmental risk assessment modelling options for coal seam gas chemicals.
