We’re rolling out a new program to improve water quality in Macquarie Harbour on Tasmania’s west coast.

This will aid recovery of the endangered Maugean skate, found only in the harbour.

We’re working together with the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation to deliver the Oxygenation Offset Program in the harbour.

The $18.3 million program will address low oxygen levels, a key threat to the skate. It builds on a 2-year trial and with oxygen now flowing into the harbour, work continues to scale up and improve delivery.

This program is one part of a wide-ranging strategy for the Maugean skate and Macquarie Harbour.
