Saving Koalas Fund Community Grants

Local community groups across Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory can now apply for Saving Koalas Fund Community Grants.
Grants between $50,000 and $200,000 are available to improve the extent, quality and connectivity of the koala’s habitat.
Applications close 9 May 2023.
Examples of eligible activities include:
- planting koala food trees and creating new koala habitat
- restoring koala habitat by removing large woody weeds like lantana, so koala-friendly trees become accessible and usable again
- improving koala corridors that allow for movement across the landscape
- First Nations-led caring for Country activities that support koalas.

The Saving Koalas Fund will provide $76.9 million over 4 years (with $2.5 million per year ongoing for monitoring) to support the recovery and long-term conservation of the koala and its habitats. Funding is provided through the Saving Native Species Program and the Natural Heritage Trust.
The Saving Koalas Fund will be delivered in partnership with First Nations people, the community, conservation organisations, governments, scientists and land managers. It will also help to deliver actions in the National Recovery Plan for the koala.
Funding will be distributed across 4 key areas:
- community grants
- large habitat restoration projects
- the National Koala Monitoring Program
- koala health and care projects.
