Partnerships and collaborations

National Environmental Science Program

This government-funded program conducts environmental and climate research. The current program (2020–2027) has four themes:

  • resilient landscapes
  • marine and coastal
  • climate systems
  • sustainable communities and waste.

The program is a collaboration between

  • government
  • industry
  • community
  • Traditional Owners.

The projects inform decision-making and on-ground action.

Find out more about the National Environmental Science Program.

Interjurisdictional Environmental Data and Information Oversight Committee (IEDIOC)

This committee brings together the Commonwealth, states and territories to:

  • improve Australia’s environmental data systems
  • support national environmental data management
  • advise ministers on better data sharing.

For more information about IEDIOC contact eia.feedback@dcceew.gov.au

National Environmental Protection Agency (National EPA)

The National EPA was established 1 July 2026. It is responsible for:

  • regulatory decision-making
  • compliance
  • enforcing Australia’s national environmental laws.

The National EPA and EIA can share and reuse environmental data and information. This allows the same information to support different legislative purposes.

The environmental laws help to:

  • better protect and restore the environment
  • improve project assessments
  • ensure decisions are open and accountable.

Visit the National EPA website.

Australian Biodiversity Information Governance Group (AusBIGG).

AusBIGG is a national group that manages Australia’s biodiversity data and information. The group provides independent technical advice on best practices, policies and procedures. The forum meets monthly. It is chaired by an elected state or territory representative. The Australian Government provides secretariat support.

Members work to:

  • coordinate how biodiversity data is managed
  • build and maintain effective data supply chains
  • support national biodiversity data infrastructure.

More information on the group is in its Terms of Reference.
