About this strategy

This strategy sets Australia’s target to halve food waste by 2030. It provides a framework to support action towards this goal. It also contributes to global action on food waste by aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 12.

The strategy leverages existing food waste efforts. It takes a circular economy approach capturing food waste as a resource. Four priority areas are identified. These are policy support, business improvements, market development, and behaviour change. All Australians have a role to play in implementing the strategy.
