The Planning component of the Strengthening Basin Communities Program enabled local government bodies in the Murray-Darling Basin to apply, either as an individual local government, a consortium of local governments or an established regional organisation of councils, for grants. The funding rounds were designed to systematically assess the risks and implications associated with climate change, with a particular focus on water availability, and then to review existing plans or develop new plans to take account of these risks and implications.
This programme is closed and no future funding rounds are planned at this time.
Second round of funding
The second funding round for the Planning component resulted in the allocation of $5 million to 38 councils in the Basin to conduct 26 separate projects.
Round 2 successful projects, announced 10 November 2010
