The Australian Heritage Council social media accounts provide a platform to share highlights of Australia’s heritage through the lens of the Australian Heritage Council. These social platforms are a place to talk, listen and share stories of Australia’s precious places.

Terms of use

When you view, post or comment on, or use in any way our social media, you must comply with these terms of use. This is a binding legal agreement. Please read the terms of use carefully.

You agree:

  • to comply with the terms of use of the social media platform. For more information, check the terms of use in each platform as they may differ.
  • to treat other people using the platforms with respect and courtesy
  • that by contributing, you accept full responsibility for ensuring that your intellectual property rights are not lost or diminished.

You also agree not to post any material that:

  • is offensive, obscene, vulgar or violent
  • incites, induces or aids violence, discriminates, harasses, vilifies victimises or provokes hatred towards others, or is likely to offend, insult or humiliate others, particularly on the basis of their race, colour, descent, national origin, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital or domestic status, criminal record, political opinion or any disability
  • is overtly party-political (e.g., political statements, reference to candidates, fundraisers, support for political parties)
  • is deemed to be fraudulent, deceptive or misleading, including impersonating or falsely representing any other person or organisation
  • you do not have a legal right to post (e.g. material that infringes the copyright)
  • advertises, offers or promotes anything of a commercial nature (e.g. that may breach the Spam Act 2003 (Cth))
  • would constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability or is otherwise illegal or unlawful.

You must also not:

  • post any personal information (e.g. names, e-mail or private addresses, phone numbers, photographs) relating to yourself or anyone else
  • introduce any virus or other form of malicious code into the social media channels
  • deliberately disrupt discussions (e.g. trolling)
  • post comments that are irrelevant to the topic or excessively long (50 words maximum)
  • use our channels to defame, libel, insult, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or attack anyone
  • post any comments containing internet addresses, links or that direct other users to external websites
  • post comments containing any images, videos or GIFs.

If you breach these terms of use, we may:

  • hide comments or posts that do not abide by these terms and conditions
  • remove or refuse to post any material you have submitted
  • suspend or permanently block you from using our social media channels
  • report your conduct to the owner of the relevant social media platform and to any appropriate law enforcement authorities
  • take any other action, including legal action, which we consider to be appropriate.

We aren’t always able to respond to individual comments or questions. If a question, theme or topic is raised frequently, we will aim to provide an answer.

Our interactions on social media are informal. We will direct you to public information and formal channels for feedback.
